What is a memorable project that you worked on during your time at UC Merced?

In Spring 2020, I worked on a computer vision project in which I used a Raspberry Pi computer for object tracking and detection.

Last summer, I participated in Lawrence Livermore’s Data Science Summer Institute. In this program, I worked with other interns to solve real-world problems in the fields of nano materials and brain cancer. The goal was to design machine learning models for data prediction.

What did you learn personally and academically by participating in this?

Personally, I learned how fun and flexible conducting research is. This inspired me to consider a career outside of the tech industry such as in a government or academic facility. Academically, I got to learn about various algorithms and computer vision topics.

UC Merced has a lot of opportunities for experiential learning. What would you say to a future student who wants to be involved?

One opportunity leads to another. Don't be afraid of taking chances, I promise you won't regret it.
